All-electric Rich 6 EV is a double cab pickup from Dongfeng Commercial EV PH

Yesterday, Diamond Auto Group EV Corporation announced they are the official importer and distributor of Dongfeng Commercial EVs in the Philippines. To show the motoring public they are indeed ready to serve up fully-electric commercial vehicles, the company revealed its initial offering.

Their lineup consists of panel vans, light-duty cab & chassis trucks, cargo vans, as well as a passenger van. But if there’s one vehicle that immediately stood out from the rest, it’s the electric pickup truck called the Rich 6.

While there’s a version that exists with an internal combustion engine (ICE) under the hood, Dongfeng decided to only bring the electric version aptly named Rich 6 EV. Immediately, some of you might have noticed that it looks somewhat similar to the Nissan Navara. It is in fact based on the third-generation Navara albeit with a differently-styled front end and a redesigned interior. But what else can we expect from the all-electric pickup truck?

Let’s start with the most obvious first, its electric hardware. A single permanent magnet synchronous motor drives the rear wheels of the Rich 6 EV. It makes 163 PS with 420 Nm of torque and is powered by a lithium-ion phosphate battery that’s rated at 60.16 kWh. On a full charge, Dongfeng says it can travel an estimated 350 km.

When it comes to recharging its battery, the system accepts both AC and DC charging methods. With a portable AC charger (3.3 kW), the automaker claims it can recharge from 0 to 100% in 12 hours. With a DC charger (6.6 kW), it can recharge itself from 0 – 100 % in only 3 hours.

Size-wise, the Rich 6 EV measures 5290mm long, 1820mm wide, 1790mm tall, and has a 3150mm wheelbase. It has a curb weight of 1970 kg and a gross vehicle weight of 3200 kg. This gives the Rich 6 EV a payload capacity of 1,230 kg which is impressive despite already weighing nearly 2,000 kg. Suspension-wise, it has a double wishbone at the front, and a leaf spring rear to help it carry heavy loads with ease.

When it comes to interior amenities, the electric pickup has plenty despite its utilitarian nature. It has leather seats, a digital instrument panel, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control, Zero Gravity seats derived from Nissan, push-button start, an electronic parking brake, a tire pressure monitoring system, cruise control, Eco/Sport modes, and a rotary-style gear selector.

When it comes to safety features, the Rich 6 EV comes with dual front airbags, traction control, vehicle dynamic control, brake assist, rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera.

For peace of mind, the Rich 6 EV (as well as the other electric vehicles) is covered by a 3-year or 100,000 km bumper-to-bumper warranty. The battery itself also has a separate warranty that is good for 5 years or 200,000 km, whichever comes first.

At PHP 2.760 million, the Dongfeng Rich 6 EV is more expensive than its similarly-sized stablemates despite the EVIDA law already in effect. However, since it doesn’t need fuel or oil, there are reduced maintenance costs and parts to maintain in the long run.
